Write down the advantages and drawbacks of associative memory

Advantages of associative memory:

(i) This is suitable for parallel searches.

(ii) It is also used where search time needs to be short.

(iii) It is very high speed searching application.

(iv) An associative memory permits its users to specify part of a pattern or key and retrieve the values associated with that pattern.

(v) Associative memory is used in multilevel memory systems.

Drawbacks of associative memory:

(i) Associative memory is much slower than RAM.

(ii) Associative memory is expensive to implement as integrated circuitry.

(iii) Associative memory is a small fast memory such as a cache.
